Relic: it’s coming from inside the house!

9th October 2020 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Very spoilery article, once you’ve recovered from watching the film… (my review is here) In many ways Relic is a classic horror film, part haunted house and part demonic possession. But it’s also about family and memories, and how dementia and ageing can snatch away that which feels most valuable to us, that we most… Relic: it’s coming from inside the house! Read More

Relic (London Film Festival) 4 stars☆☆☆☆☆

8th October 2020 by Sarah Leave a Comment

A daughter, mother and grandmother are haunted by a manifestation of dementia that consumes their family’s home. There are post-it notes stuck all around Edna’s elegant and airy house, little reminders of basic living: turn off taps says one. As they get more frightening, warnings in an increasingly spidery hand, there’s one that says Don’t… Relic (London Film Festival) Read More

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey trailer proves it’s never too early for songs and sparkle

5th October 2020 by Sarah

“No matter who you are, no matter what you do, the magic lives inside of you.” The trailer for Netflix’s Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is here and it’s wonderful. I love the sumptuous colours, I love the songs, I love the cast, I love the alliteration… and this means we can start Christmas right… Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey trailer proves it’s never too early for songs and sparkle Read More

The Witches trailer: Huston, do we have a problem?

4th October 2020 by Sarah

Is that a little mean? Roald Dahl was very mean in his stories and judging by this trailer, it doesn’t seem as if this new version of The Witches will be as horrifying as his book, or Nicolas Roeg’s 1990 movie, starring the incredible Angelica Huston as the Grand High Witch. Directed by Robert Zemeckis,… The Witches trailer: Huston, do we have a problem? Read More

Say Your Prayers: Blessed are the filmmakers…

3rd October 2020 by Sarah

Note: this is spoilery, though I can’t help you with the biggest question of all – is there a God? And if so where does She buy her bras? Say Your Prayers (my review is here) is small-scale and very self-contained, though it’s remarkably effective. Like a doorstep proselytiser you thought you’d got rid if,… Say Your Prayers: Blessed are the filmmakers… Read More

Doggedly searching

3rd October 2020 by Sarah

This was a search term used to get to my site today, and really a filmmaker needs to make a movie with this title: I can see it now: a hugely rich American family employ a mysterious man with a slightly over-the-top English accent to serve their pampered pooches. Then he disappears, taking their favourite… Doggedly searching Read More

Bond is (put) back… again

3rd October 2020 by Sarah

The original release date for no Time To Die was 2 April 2020 – and very excited I was too, what with that being my birthday. Now it’s been delayed again from its previous latest slot, November 2020, to 2 April 2021, so at least I don’t have to change my plans. Apparently this move… Bond is (put) back… again Read More

Say Your Prayers 3 stars☆☆☆☆☆

1st October 2020 by Sarah

Two orphaned brothers turned radical Christian hitmen venture to rural Ilkley under the instruction of Father Enoch. Their mission: assassinate Professor Bill Huxley, famed atheist writer.
