*** Read my review of Robin Hood ***
The trailer for upcoming Robin Hood film called, er, Robin Hood is out now. And it looks exactly as I expected it to, sort of King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword-y.
But that’s fine, as I was one of the few people who liked King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword. There’s a reason the same legends get retold again and again, apart from that it’s probably easier to get funding and everyone already knows the story.
We’ve only just had a sort of remake, when Gerard Butler faced down Ray Merrimen and his merry men in Den Of Thieves, though admittedly their modus operandi was robbing from the rich and then keeping it all.
Speaking of legends, you can’t think of Robin Hood movies without shedding a tear / having a cackle at the late Alan Rickman. This looks to be a very gritty retelling of the famous story, so I’m expecting Ben Mendelsohn’s Sheriff Of Nottingham to be dark without many jokes. And of all the famous characters I’m most interested in what he makes of his role.
Robin Hood is released on 21 November 2018 in the US and 23 November in the UK. Taron Egerton stars as Robin, with Jamie Foxx as Little John, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian and Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlet. It’s directed by Otto Bathurst.
