Gerard Butler is BACK as Banning: fourth installment announced

9th November 2020 by Sarah

Is 2020 finally cutting us some slack? They say good things come in threes, and what a week this has been. First Biden / Harris win the US election. Then a COVID-19 vaccine is announced. And now… there’s a new Has Fallen film.

Okay so not always in threes, as this is Gerard Butler’s fourth outing in the franchise where Secret Service agent Mike Banning saves stuff (so far: the White House, two American presidents, his relationship with his estranged father, the cinematic experience, us from ourselves) while killing loads of people, to prove that killing people is wrong, as long as you’re on the opposite side to him.

Deadline reports the new film is called Night Has Fallen, though I’m surprised Gerry didn’t seize the opportunity to stab a virus in the head.

Perhaps it’s actually Knight Has Fallen and Mike Banning goes back in time and loses his gun, but does that stop him? NI! I mean NO!

Actually I don’t know what’s going to happen in Part 4, though I think we know it’ll involve a huge explosion that leaves him with a few minor cuts and grazes while levelling most of the vicinity. Banning is extremely tough, and once jogged away from a helicopter which had been brought down by a stinger missile.

To be honest we’re at the stage now where unless he walks off unscathed from the centre of a nuclear explosion we’ll think he’s losing his touch.

Whatever, the news blasted its way through Twitter this afternoon like Gerry through his leading ladies, and brought some much needed cheer for filmgoers considering in the UK we are STILL WAITING to see his disasteroid movie Greenland.

The question is, will Banning finally eat the breakfast so lovingly prepared for him by [insert latest actress to play Mrs Banning here] before he kisses his cute daughter and rushes off to save the world by stabbing someone in the head?

Night Has Fallen will be written by John Kamen and directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who also directed Angel Has Fallen and Greenland WHICH IN THE UK WE STILL HAVEN’T… okay you get the picture (or not, in our case).
