Hobbs & Shaw furious but team up fast in new trailer

2nd February 2019 by Sarah Leave a Comment

UPDATE 4 Feb 2019: check out the new Hobbs & Shaw images, released today – plus scroll down for last night’s Super Bowl teaser

It may sound like a posh shoe shop on Marylebone High Street but Hobbs & Shaw is actually the first standalone spin off from the hugely successful ($5 billion so far) Fast & The Furious franchise.

This is not a film that’s going to take itself too seriously – the trailer’s funny and the action sequences look both awesome and crackers.

Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) – “I’m what you call an ice cold can of whoop ass” – and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) – “I’m what you might call a champagne problem” – have to team up, despite hating each other, to defeat a greater threat: bad guy Brixton.

Brixton, played by Idris Elba, is a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist, the best kind of anarchist I’ve always thought.

He’s amazing and I’m already thinking I’ll probably be rooting for him instead of the good guys.

According to the movie synopsis, Brixton “gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever”, which could well be something to do with my 7 year old after his daily dose of Heinz baked beans and sausages.

Going from LA to London, from Chernobyl to Samoa, this promises to be a fast-paced, very over the top, blast.

The movie is out on 2 August 2019. Directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2) Hobbs & Shaw also stars Vanessa Kirby as Hattie Shaw, Deckard’s sister, a rogue MI6 agent.
