Greenland’s UK date of doom announced! Watch the trailer now

19th January 2021 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Finally Gerard Butler’s excellent disasteroid / cometastrophe film Greenland has a UK release date.

The Amazon Exclusive is out on Prime Video on 5 February – and it’s the perfect pandemic distraction, if like me your first movie watch when Lockdown 1.0 loomed last spring was Contagion.

The film follows John Garrity (Butler), his wife Allison (Morena Baccarin) and young son Nathan trying to get to safety when a comet expected to pass by the Earth turns out to be on a collision course. Yes, the whole world is finally being cancelled, and there’s little that governments or NASA can do about it.

When you see the last loo roll being looted out of Tesco

I reviewed Greenland for the US release late last year and it’s a great film, though not entirely what you’d expect. Gerard Butler doesn’t once try to stab the comet in the head, though he does drink a big glass of water, just like in London Has Fallen. It’s about personal redemption and how society steps up (or not), though if that all seems a little too introspective when you’ve been shut indoors for months, fear not – there are also explosions and burning rocks raining down a-plenty.

Check out the trailer below:

Greenland stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Scott Glenn and Roger Dale Floyd. It’s directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a script by Chris Sparling. And don’t forget that UK date – 5 February!
