“The best boat movie ever!” says Edgar Allan Poe, and I agree with him, even if neither of us have seen it yet.
It is also, according to some slightly more believable reactions in the trailer, “sadistic” (Bloody Disgusting) and “deeply fucked up” (The Farsighted), and frankly if there was ever a movie where I wanted to get a poster quote, this is going to be it. Even if I have to mock up my own.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Rivalries, dark secrets, and sexual tension emerge when three best friends find themselves stranded on a yacht in the middle of the ocean under suspicious circumstances.”
I am now desperate to know how you find yourself stranded on a yacht in the middle of the ocean under suspicious circumstances – publicists, please send help, I mean screeners.
Directed by Rob Grant, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mike Kovac, the film stars Munro Chambers, Emily Tyra and Christopher Gray.
Harpoon has already premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and played at a couple of US festivals, including the Calgary Underground Film Festival where it won the Audience Award.
There’s no news of a UK or US release date yet, though it has just been acquired at Cannes by Epic Pictures for the US market – hopefully it’ll be headed to the English Channel soon.
