Netflix releases first look images from the fifth series of The Crown — with this series debuting a brand new cast led by Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.
This series focuses on the 1990s, a crazy decade for the British royal family as they lurched from one often self-created crisis to another. Pre-social media, I’d see the tabloid front pages on my way to work and think “they’ve done WHAT now?” From Fergie having her toe sucked by AN AMERICAN (I doubt her millions of pounds of debt really mattered to British aristos, most of whom are probably massively in hock themselves) to Charles telling Camilla he wanted to be her tampon, to Princess Diana’s extraordinary TV interview with Martin Bashir and *that* book, Diana: Her True Story, written by Andrew Morton (which I read under the counter during a long summer holiday manning the tills in the near-deserted medical department of a university bookshop — well it was that or an encyclopaedia of Victorian body parts in jars).
Series 5 comprises ten hour-long episodes, and is written by Peter Morgan. It launches on Netflix on 9 November 2022. (This series is not covering Princess Diana’s death — that will be covered in series 6.)

Here’s the series synopsis:
