I feel the Whalefall poster should be on ancient papyrus, such is the longevity of such a headline: “Area man swallowed by whale, escapes”.
It looks very tense and scary, though while we do get whales off the British coasts, I have googled and they couldn’t swallow a Brit. Phew. Not sure about the rest of you though, so do take care out there.
Here’s the Whalefall synopsis (the film is based on Daniel Kraus’s 2023 book of the same name):
Following the death of his father (Josh Brolin), Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes diving off the Central Coast of California in search of his remains, but is swallowed by a massive sperm whale. While trapped inside its belly with only one hour of oxygen left, Jay comes to realise that the hard-earned lessons his father imparted may be the key to his escape.”
Whalefall is released in UK cinemas on 16 October 2026.

I do now feel I may have have been remiss in the lessons I have taught my own teenage sons, who would have no idea how to escape a sperm whale’s digestive tract (and the giant squid that was swallowed with poor Jay). They can each make a decent omelette though, and both know that the most efficient way to wash a duvet cover is to chuck it in the machine with the duvet still inside it, two essential life skills should you not get swallowed by a sperm whale.
