What do you mean, too soon? It’s not even too soon for Christmas 2027.
So if you’re a Bah Humbug type, off you pop. For the rest of us, here’s the A Very Merry Breakup synopsis:
Love addict Lydia thinks she is finally ready to settle down with her sweet, reliable boyfriend Tim. But when Tim surprises her with a storybook Christmas-in-New York proposal, she panics and retreats home to Los Angeles, where she must discover who she really is with the help of her four (yes, four!) parents. To stop the spiral, they throw a New Year’s Eve party stocked with every eligible bachelor they know. When Tim shows up before midnight, Lydia has to wade through a minefield of suitors to prove that the one love she’s addicted to is his.
A Very Merry Breakup is written and directed by Elizabeth Guest, and stars Guest, Andrew Leeds, Ed Begley Jr., Pamela Guest, Nicholas Guest, Rachelle Carson-Begley, and Academy Award winner Keith Carradine. The original score is by Academy Award Nominee Nicholas Pike.
That’s a lot of Guests and Begleys! Still, Christmas is a time for families so why not stuff your very own Christmas romcom with them.

Lydia and Tim
As you can probably guess I love Christmas, and I love Christmas movies. And after several years where my son was obsessed with watching Santa Buddies, over and over and over again, and then over and over and over again again, now all Christmas movies that aren’t Santa Buddies feel to me like they could rival It’s A Wonderful Life.
So I will be watching A Very Merry Breakup even though all you really need for the festive season is not true love but a wheel of cheese, a bottle of champagne and a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.

I have only one bit of advice to people breaking up at Christmas. If you are the breakee, make sure you get your present off them first.

Meet the parents!
A Very Merry Breakup debuts on Tuesday November 3 on Apple TV, Fandango at Home and Prime Video.
