I don’t think I’ve ever watched the animated classic from 1998, as I wasn’t much of a Disney fan when I was younger, which at least means I won’t be comparing the old and the new. And this live action remake – directed by Niki Caro – does look gorgeous, and epic in scale.
Mulan (based on an old Chinese poem, The Ballad of Mulan) is about a Chinese girl who disguises herself as a male warrior in order to save her father, when every family is ordered to send one man to fight. The title character is played by Chinese-American actress Yifei Liu, chosen after a worldwide casting search.
