“I’d never seen a woman, with an instrument, in a band! ” says The GoGos’ Kathy Valentine in this trailer for documentary Suzi Q, exploring Suzi Quatro’s influence and groundbreaking work in the music industry.
“A lot of girls tried to be Suzi Quatro, but when it’s in the DNA, you can’t fake that” says Alice Cooper, another interviewee.
The film, from Australian filmmakers Liam Firmager and Tait Brady, also features Deborah Harry, Joan Jett, Kathy Valentine, Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth, KT Tunstall, Cherie Currie, Henry Winkler and Suzi Quatro herself. Already out in the UK, it’s released on the other side of the pond in early July.
Here’s the synopsis:
SUZI Q positions Suzi as the trailblazer and inspiration for a generation of women who were to follow after her in the next decade, but whose trailblazing status was not sufficiently recognised by the music industry and contemporary audiences, especially in North America. SUZI Q reminds contemporary audiences of her pioneering influence, white-hot talent and string of incandescent rock hits.
Utopia Distribution will host a “SUZI Q” virtual event on 1 July featuring the film and an exclusive Q&A featuring Suzi Quatro and a special guest (available for 24 hours only) – this is US and Canada only, with its VOD and DVD release on 3 July. Tickets for the July 1st event powered by Altavod are available from:
