Or if you do go in for a dip, stay the hell away from me.

Actually, avoid the shoreline. And the beach. And the house. Don’t let your guard down because the invaders look like giant Cornish pasties either. Because these things are dangerous AND disgusting, and will make you say “URGH!!!” as much as “ARGHH!!!”
The planet appears to be fighting back in Shudder Original’s eco-horror The Beach House, as a young couple find themselves fighting for their lives against a natural invader that seems to come from the sea. (I’ve seen it, and it is very tense and very well-paced.)

Here’s the synopsis:
Escaping to a family’s beach house to reconnect, Emily and Randall find their off-season trip interrupted by Mitch and Jane Turner, an older couple acquainted with Randall’s estranged father. Unexpected bonds form as the couples let loose and enjoy the isolation, but it all takes an ominous turn as increasingly strange environmental phenomena begin to warp their peaceful evening. As the effects of an infection become evident, Emily struggles to make sense of the contagion before it’s too late.
Watch the trailer below. It is pretty spoilery in terms of what they’re up against, though it doesn’t give away the ending. Still, if you prefer to go into your horrors with no prior knowledge whatsoever of the gunk awaiting you, leave now!
This is the first film from writer-director Jeffrey A Brown. It stars Liana Liberato as Emily and Noah Le Gros as Randall. Jake Weber and Maryanne Nagel are Mitch and Jane Turner, the older couple Randall and Emily find staying in the beach house when they arrive.
The Beach House is out on Shudder in the UK, US, Canada and Ireland on 9 July 2020.
