A trailer has been released for Sulphur & White, based on the inspiring true story of mountaineer and fundraiser David Tait – who went from an abusive childhood to the full-pelt life of a City trader, before finally addressing the trauma he had suffered.
The film stars Mark Stanley, Cannes best actress winner Emily Beecham, Dougray Scott and BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Anna Friel. It’s directed by directed by BAFTA and Emmy Award nominee Julian Jarrold.
In the trailer, we see Tait suffering abuse as a small boy – “a skinny kid” – before cutting contact as an adult, becoming a successful City trader and settling down with his wife Vanessa and baby. Blotting out his pain with alcohol and pills, his life starts to unravel.

Based on the incredible true story of David Tait, SULPHUR AND WHITE is a moving and deeply personal drama about how the redemptive power of love can heal the destructive nature of trauma, dark secrets and enduring lies. We all carry secrets. David carries his and they eat away at his soul. With ruthless determination, he builds a successful career in the relentless world of financial trading, but as he climbs the corporate ladder, his past threatens to rise up and engulf him. He meets Vanessa, the love of his life, who wants to find a future for them if only David can find a way to heal his deep emotional wounds.
Since leaving his role as a city trader, Tait has achieved impressive feats as a mountaineer and fundraiser. He has personally raised over £1.5 million by climbing Mount Everest on five occasions for the NSPCC, and was the first person to complete the North-South traverse. He continues to to raise awareness and champion the work of the NSPCC at events across the UK.
Sulphur & White is out in UK cinemas on 6 March.
