No AI-ligators in upcoming practical effects horror Gator Face – watch the trailer, plus pics and poster!

Creatures! Cults! Crying! Take a look at the trailer for alligator horror Gator Face, out this month with a limited run in select US cinemas on 11 September and  then on digital on 15 September.

And there is something familiar about this trailer, which uses the recording from 1915 of Taylor Holmes reciting Rudyard Kipling’s war march poem Boots. If you think you’ve heard it before pretty recently, yes it was used to great acclaim soundtracking the trailer for 2025 zombie threequel 28 Years Later. I don’t think it fits here, or is necessary, as the trailer goes all-in, with masked cult members feeding a group of teens to their alligator gods.

A group of friends find their sun-soaked Florida vacation takes a dark turn when they become prey to a sinister cult that sacrifices its victims to an alligator god. Far from the carefree escape they had planned, the friends are drawn deeper into an isolated world governed by ritual and violence, forcing them into a desperate fight to survive both the cult and the deadly creature at the center of its beliefs.

Gator Face was written and directed by Padraig Reynolds, who draws on classic creature horror and Southern folklore. The film uses real practical effects – no AI-ligators here… Here’s now they did it (and now excuse me while I go down an internet rabbit hole about “nuisance alligators”):

“For the film’s live-alligator sequences, the production partnered with Bellowing Acres, an alligator and exotic animal sanctuary in North Florida. The organization provides a permanent home for rescued nuisance alligators that otherwise faced euthanasia by the state, as well as rehabilitated alligators that cannot legally be returned to the wild. Working alongside experienced animal professionals allowed the production to incorporate the animals into the film while maintaining a controlled environment for the cast, crew and alligators. No alligators were harmed in the making of GATOR FACE.”
