If you go to friends’ nuptials dressed like Rachel Weisz in My Cousin Rachel (black bonnet, black lace veil and black silk crinoline – think “gothic beekeeper chic”) with a face like you just watched your dog eat your winning lottery ticket, then this movie is for you.
Frank (Keanu Reeves) and Lindsay (Winona Ryder), two misfit misanthropes en route to the same destination wedding, are thrown together throughout their journey and the event festivities.
Do they fall in love? Or maybe kill each other?
American weddings mystify me almost as much as they do Frank and Lindsay, and seem to go on for several days.
In the UK everyone drifts in over the course of the previous evening, then gets pissed in the hotel bar while moaning to each other about the acceptability of a poem asking for money in lieu of presents which rhymes “gift” with “miffed”, and “kitchen blender” with “return to sender”.
Hopefully these cross-Atlantic differences in wedding etiquette won’t stop the movie (directed by Victor Levin) being a success over here.
Destination Wedding came out in the US last year and finally has a UK cinema release: 10 May 2019 (with a VOD release date of 21 June).
