“A great man doesn’t seek to lead. He’s called to it.” Sadly not Dominic Cummings to Boris Johnson but Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) to his son Paul (Timothée Chalamet) who is having doubts about the role he has been born into.
The very youthful Chalamet plays Paul, a name which hardly screams epic — I kept expecting a Life Of Brian-esque theme song about a baby called Paul who grows up to be a teenager called Paul — though this trailer does indeed look fabulously epic.
Here’s the synopsis:
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Dune stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem.
Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) directs. It’s out on 21 October 2021.
