The Dune trailer promises an epic Christmas (if it doesn’t move)

Beyond fear, destiny awaits...

…And beyond breathtaking visuals™, I had no idea what to expect of the trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, mainly because despite seeing the original movie years – decades? – ago, I can’t remember anything about it, except Sting.

This new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel is suitably epic though, with Timothée Chalamet playing Paul. It looks amazing, though absolutely none of the plot came back to me while watching it, so thank god for the (quite long) synopsis:

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. As well as Chalamet, the film stars Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Issac, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, and Charlotte Rampling. It’s supposedly out in the UK and US on 18 December 2020, though there are rumours that Wonder Woman 1984 and / or Black Widow may be moved back from their Autumn slots, meaning Dune might move to 2021.
