To The Grave is a short but moving film from director Esther Hegarty about a woman whose mother dies and who then finds the tiny skeleton of a baby when clearing out the house.
The daughter – an only child – has always been convinced she had a sibling, but all is not what it seems.
Jane Stanton is wonderful as Claire, putting in a searing and very believable performance as the grown up daughter whose world is turned upside down by her discovery of a secret long buried; with Lucy Fleming as her dying mother, Lucy.
As a full length film I might have found this a bit too emotional, but as a short it is well pitched with enough drama to keep me interested but not enough to tip it over into melodrama. (It does involve twins though. Where would we be in storytelling without twins? We’d only have the miserable Shakespeares for a start).
