I’m Cassian and I am 7
I wanted to give this 9.9 but mum said it had to be out of five stars. The start is brilliant, the rocks in the snow are made to look like a reindeer’s head.
I’ve actually seen reindeer in Finland. Last year I went to Lapland to meet the real Father Christmas and our hotel caught fire in the night. It was really scary so it made me happy seeing the reindeer on here. The film has also got the snow on the trees where there’s so much you can’t see the trees underneath, which we saw when we went there.
Some bits of this film are scary but even though it’s scary you know the baby reindeer is going to be fine because the man is telling us the story about the reindeer’s life. The story is about him.
The baby reindeer is called Aïlo. He is born when his mum and the other reindeer are walking from the top of the mountains to the valley. She has to leave the others to have her baby but it takes Aïlo a long time to stand up and she starts to walk off and leave him.
But she thought about it again and decides she really does want to be a mother and comes back to look after him. I was worried he wouldn’t get to reconnect with her but they go to sleep all snuggled up. Then I got worried she might go off again in the night but she stays with him. The next day they start walking to the valley where the herd is, it takes them five days.
His legs are still very wobbly. On the way to the herd he has to cross a cold river which was scary to watch. He is very resilient though.
The film goes from when Aïlo is born to when he is one year old. I was interested to know when he was going to grow his antlers which took quite a long time. His mum looks after him for a long time, all the way through the film.
When he and his mum are back with the other reindeer it is still scary for him. A wolf comes and watches them and I thought “she’s going to come back with a team” and she comes back with her cubs. I felt sad and scared when Aïlo gets chased by the wolves but he goes through a river and they can’t find him. The wolves are the scariest animals in the film.
It’s entertaining and I enjoyed watching it. Seeing all the snow combined looks incredible. I learnt a lot about reindeer and other animals. The man telling us what’s happening gives us lots of information. I had heard about reindeer and wolves and artic foxes but not wolverines and polecats.
The arctic fox just wants to make a family but there aren’t many left. I felt sad for him. The white stoat is really funny jumping around.
I think these types of movies must be hard to make because you have to find out all the facts about the animals and work out what to do in the movie.
