In her satin tights, fighting for our rights… FOR CHRISTMAS!
Wonder Woman 1984 has what we hope is its final release schedule, though it’s going to please some and annoy others. (Hardly new in the superhero movie world though?)
The Wonder Woman sequel, which stars Gal Gadot, is out in cinemas on Christmas Day in the US, and releases onto subscription service HBO Max on the same day.
Its international cinema release begins on 16 December, which is when we’ll be able to see it here in the UK. (I’m in England and we are currently locked down until 2 December, though that may be extended. The rules are different in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland).
In the US the big New York and LA cinema markets are still shut down. For HBO Max subscribers there is no extra cost beyond the subscription. According to Deadline, after a month on HBO Max it will be exclusively in cinemas for another month, then onto streaming platforms with PVOD (premium video on demand).
Assuming we don’t go into another lockdown over here I’ll be watching it on the big screen. (In a mask except when I need to take it off to guzzle nine months’ worth of popcorn.)
Director Patty Jenkins tweeted out the new plans and what else they’re trying to do to get Wonder Woman 1984 in front of fans:

Good question. We have plans to hold it in theaters for quite a long time, and hopefully long enough that it will still be there when theaters all over the world ARE open. https://t.co/rrSgQm7dBJ

We are also working on a program to allow you, your cohort, your family or your pod to rent THEIR OWN THEATERS OUT to screen the film in the safety of your group. We will try to help to bring it to as many of you as we can and thank you all for your support. You are great fans.❤️ https://t.co/1ZTb5eXUEK

I can't wait for the world to see this amazing woman on the screen. She'll blow your mind and warm your heart. @GalGadot killed it in this film, and she does all that great and hard work for only the most honorable reasons. She is a true #Wonderwoman so I hope you enjoy #WW84 https://t.co/Q7fYuNAEab
