225 Film Club releases its 2023 longlist

11th September 2023 by Sarah Leave a Comment

225 Film Club: Promoting Female Excellence In Direction

Created in 2018 by filmmaker Rita Osei, the 225 Film Club screens excellent current and past narrative and documentary short film work by female and non-binary filmmakers, introduces directors and producers, and supports women in film. For the second year running it takes place at the BFI, thanks to support from Melanie Hoyes and BFI Inclusion.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the 225 Film Club is now a well-established fixture in the British filmmaker calendar. To mark the occasion, screening out of competition are:

THE FORGOTTEN C (2020), directed by Un Certain Regard Award winner (for her debut feature HOW TO HAVE SEX), Molly Manning Walker. Written by Jessi Gutch & Walker, Gutch also produces.

NOSEBLOOD (2018), written & directed by Venice Critics Week Award winner (for her debut feature HOARD) Luna Carmoon.

And previewing, AURORA (2023), a new short film starring Djinda Kane and Ella-Rae Smith — written & directed by 225 Film Club creator, Rita Osei. Produced by Osei and Deborah Riley Draper.

As usual l’lI be looking at 225 Film Club in three parts: check out the official long list below, then come back on 25 September for the final programme announcement. The shortlisted films screen at the BFI NFT3 on Thursday 26 October, and I’lI be back on Halloween, Tuesday 31 October with the Best Short Film winner announcement plus mini reviews of all the shortlisted films.

Check out the 2023 longlist for the 225 Film Club below (you can also read about the last two 225 Film Clubs here and here).
