Upcoming horror Bloody Tennis – presumably a satire on the pressures put on young prodigies as they lose sight of why they loved their sport in the first place – arrives on Shudder on 25 September, and you can check out the trailer below.

I must admit I was pretty surprised when I saw in the trailer that tennis was brought to the area by French monks. Monk-y tennis? Sign me up now!

Here’s the synopsis:
After being admitted to an elite tennis academy hidden deep in the South of Europe, Sophie must contend not only with fierce competition but also with the school’s increasingly sinister undercurrents. What begins as a competitive rite of passage soon unravels into something darker, forcing Sophie to choose between chasing greatness and the connections to her friends and lovers. As the stakes rise, she must decide whether to become the player she’s always dreamed of—or keep her empathy. BLOODY TENNIS blends elite sports, trippy hallucinations and grotesque humour into a world filled with brutal ambition, blood-sucking leeches, hard-hitting serves and delicious nightmares.
I’m terrible at sports but it was just like this playing Scrabble with my late mum so I think there’s something for everyone here.
Bloody Tennis is written and directed by Nikias Chryssos. The film stars Sandra Guldberg Kampp, Elina Löwensohn, Tracy Gotoas, Helena Zengel, Zlatko Burić, Lily Taïeb, Juliana Vieira Guerra, Lucie Zhang, and Vincent Romeo.
