“The hell you supposed to be??” asks a black and white faced goon before the Batman beats him to a pulp in front of his team. “I’M VENGEANCE” he growls back.
Thanks to the COVID shutdown Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN is still in production, with the release scheduled for 1 October 2021 in cinemas. This is the first trailer.
I am no Batxpert, though I do know under British law if you find one you should leave it well alone. Good advice! This trailer is dark in both senses, with Bruce Wayne looking permanently guarded and troubled.
The Riddler is writing letters, cards and riddles and leaving them round Gotham attached to dead bodies and sometimes live ones too, for the Batman to find. One victim has his head taped up and NO MORE LIES written across it.
Lying is a theme: “If you are justice please do not lie, what is the price for your blind eye?”
Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne / Batman isn’t meant to be green around the gills but also isn’t yet a seasoned crimefighter. His deathly palor means he looks like he hasn’t been outside in daylight for months. His bat-cave is industrial-looking, and his equipment looks cobbled-together.
Here’s the trailer:
Robert Pattinson is the Batman, Zoë Kravitz is Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Paul Dano is Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin (though apparently at this stage he doesn’t like that name).
