What a title! And what a hashtag it’ll be. (Did film names start getting longer when Twitter doubled its tweet character count, or did Twitter double its tweet character count because film titles were getting longer? It’s these kinds of philosophical conundrums that made me become a critic.)
At two minutes, this is quite long for a year-ahead teaser trailer, which tend to last 30 seconds and comprise quick shots of the enigmatic star, a hot lady, a fireball, a couple of fan favourites and a major stunt at the end leaving us thinking “surely no one could survive that!”. But in this case we know He does (capital H as Tom is a God) as this is only Part 1 of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning.
Actually this teaser has most of the above and more: a yellow Fiat 500 to be exact, with Tom at the wheel. And if you think driving a tiny car through tiny streets is a step down in the excitement stakes for Tom, I once parked up my own modern black Fiat 500 at the petrol pumps next to a teeny original black Fiat 500, and asked the owner if it was fun to drive. “No, it’s horrible!” he said cheerfully, before opening the bonnet to fill it up with what must have been a thimbleful of fuel.
The film is out in the UK in July 2023, by which time Tom driving a Fiat 500 will seem even more outlandish, as filling it up will cost about £4000.
Here’s the movie synopsis, which I nicked from IMDB:
Seventh entry in the long-running Mission: Impossible series.
Ha sorry.
