“Honour. That is why a knight does does what he does.”
From filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table, with Dev Patel starring as Sir Gawain. It’s out in US cinemas on 30 July but — alas — not until 6 August in the UK.
I am an absolute sucker for anything King Arthur / Knights Of The Round Table-related, but even if I wasn’t this trailer looks terrific. Giants! Beheadings! Castles! A talking fox! KNIGHTLY HONOUR!
Here’s the synopsis, if for some reason you’re not sold yet:
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.
I won’t lie, it’s rather poignant with cinemas about to finally reopen, to hear lines such as “Another year nearly gone already…” I can’t wait to see epics like this back in cinemas.
Watch the trailer for The Green Knight now:
Co-starring with Dev Patel are Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Kate Dickie, Sean Harris and… Ralph Ineson as the Green Knight himself.
