Horror icons assemble as a girls’ getaway turns deadly with fairy tale-obsessed killers stalking them in the woods.
Fairy tales are meant to be scary – or at the very least cautionary tales. And if you’ve enjoyed the recent gruesome takes on Winnie-the-Pooh, Ever After might be right up your street (of gingerbread houses), as a bachelorette party becomes a gruesome nightmare deep in the woods.
I hope the gals manage to completely turn the tables on their fairytale tormentors and if British hen parties are anything to go by I see no reason why their American counterparts can’t come out on top. British hen weekends can be terrifying. Those ladies could easily murder all three little pigs while pissed on several bottles of Whispering Angel and you’d probably find them the next morning curing their hangovers with a big stack of bacon sandwiches.
Here’s the Ever After synopsis:
When a group of girlfriends head to a remote forest lodge for a bachelorette party, the fun quickly turns into terror as they discover the forest is home to bloodthirsty lunatics who perceive themselves to be characters from classic fairy tales. As night falls, familiar figures like Little Red Riding Hood, the Big Bad Wolf, the Evil Witch, and Prince Charming emerge from the darkness — but nothing about them is familiar anymore. What follows is a relentless fight for survival where every storybook ending is rewritten in blood. As the lines between fantasy and reality blur, survival becomes the girls’ only goal.

Ever After is directed by Laszlo Illes who also co-wrote along with Laszlo Krisztian Gera. It has some horror icons among its cast of Academy Award® Nominee Mark Sheppard, Bonnie Aarons, Kane Hodder, Academy Award® Nominee Malcolm McDowell, Maria De Sa, Lydia Pearl Pentz, Meg Vermette, Philippe Reinhardt, Lara Sas, Miklos Bela Szekely, and Riana Emma Balla.
HORROR – THRILLER – DRAMA – SLASHER listed the PR email sent to me, which covers a lot of bases and reminded me a little of when I go for job interviews and try to cover so much so they have no excise not to hire me (“I’m a team player and also enjoy working on my own!”) You can make up your own mind if you’re in the US though as it is out there in cinemas in just a few days – 4 September.
