There was a lot going on in that last act, and callbacks galore to the very first film – and amazingly nearly everybody who made it this far lives (except Krebs who becomes D-Rex dinner). Check it out below. (If you’re after my 4-star review, it’s here.)
Let’s take a step back and start with that river attack. Reuben, Teresa, Isabella and Xavier see a boathouse by a river, and Teresa quietly crosses the water to retrieve it – they aim to use it to reach the lab complex. A T-Rex is sleeping nearby, and Teresa manages to get past it to the boathouse, though when she opens the packed-up inflatable on the river the noise it makes wakes the dinosaur. They all jump in and start paddling, though the dinosaur comes after them. The boat upturns and Isabella is left stuck underneath it, while the others make it to relative safety through some boulders in the water. Isabella manages to make it through just as the T-Rex comes for her; it shoves its head between the rocks but gets stuck, and has to pull itself out at which point it gives up. The boat has survived unscathed and they continue to paddle downstream.
Meanwhile Zora, Duncan, Martin, LeClerc and Henry manage to obtain the sample they need from the Titanosaurus, which they find with its herd in a field. The Titanosaurus is otherwise distracted by another Titanosaurus, and it proves straightforward to obtain the sample (the large, full syringe then fires itself off the animal and floats to earth).
They they need only to get the Quetzalcoatlus sample. For safety (ha) they are going to obtain this from one its eggs. The nest is in an old temple carved out of a cliff, so Zora, Henry and LeClerc rappel down to the nest with Duncan and Martin at the top managing the ropes. Zora and Henry get their sample but one of the parent Quetzalcoatlus returns, killing LeClerc on his rope and trying to attack Zora and Henry.
The sample rolls away, though Henry manages to clamber to it while hanging off the cliff face, eventually grabbing it and then falling to the ground, his fall broken by the tree canopy. He ends up landing in a river, with Zora, Martin and Duncan running down through the old temple steps in the rock to join him.
They make it to the village and lab complex and shout for the Delgado family, who have also got there, and all are reunited. However when Teresa sees Martin Krebs she tells everyone that he could have rescued her on the boat but choose to let her fall into the sea. Krebs has a gun and demands the samples case from Zora. She has to give it to him and he then handcuffs it to his wrist.
The complex is on a timer and as night falls everything lights up and becomes noisy, which attracts two Mutadons (a cross between a Pteranodon and a Velociraptor and created by the lab years earlier). The family hide in the petrol station shop for safety, though a Mutadon enters through a ceiling panel. They are stalked round the shelves (like Lex and Tim in Jurassic Park, in the kitchens with a Veloceraptor). Eventually they escape down a floor hatch into the tunnels complex underneath.
Duncan and Henry venture into the lab and they are shocked by the mutated dinosaur samples they find there.

Duncan distracting the Distortus Rex
The helicopter ordered by Zora is circling. Initially the pilots don’t see anyone and and as they are under orders to hang around for two minutes only, soon they turn it around to leave. Henry fires a flare which the pilots see. They return but the Distortus Rex has arrived, the massive mutant hybrid also created years before by the lab. It grabs the helicopter, crushing it, and it then crashes to the ground and explodes.
Krebs is in a truck, intending to drive to the helipad. Zora is hiding under the truck when Krebs drives off leaving her exposed. She makes it into one of the tunnels and meets up with the family, Duncan and Henry while Krebs drives erratically down the twisting road.
In the tunnel they are pursued by a Mutadon. The tunnel takes them down to the coast but the entrance is barred. Only young Isabella is small enough to get through the gaps so she squeezes through and heads over to operate the opening mechanism. The D-Rex has followed them above ground and is approaching behind her. She manages to open the gate and everyone rushes out. The gate shuts and the pursuing Mutadon is stuck in the tunnel.
Krebs has appeared. The D-Rex appears and devours him, the samples case landing on the ground with his severed forearm still attached (a reminder of Mr Arnold in the first film).
Duncan takes a red flare, lights it and waves it at the D-Rex, so the others can escape. It follows Duncan into the swamp. The others are struggling to get the lowering mechanism on an inflatable motorboat to work. They finally manage it and Zora, Henry, Reuben, Xavier, Teresa and Isabella (plus Dolores the little dinosaur) jump in. As they are speeding away they see another red flare loop into the sky and realise Duncan is alive. They turn around and head back, rescuing him.
The boat speeds away from the island again and Henry reiterates his question to Zora: should they give the samples to Krebs’ company or everyone? “Everyone” she answers. As the boat travels through the water the survivors see a school of dolphins swimming beside them.
