Get thee behind that sofa! Nigel Kneale’s TV adaptation of The Woman in Black finally comes to blu-ray

29th June 2020 by Sarah

*** My review is now live ***

So put 10 August in your diaries! This new release comes with an audio commentary from horror experts Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, The League of Gentlemen) and Kim Newman (author, Anno Dracula), and star Andy Nyman (Ghost Stories).

Pauline Moran as the woman in black and Adrian Rawlins as Arthur Kidd

Here’s the synopsis:

When a friendless old widow dies in the seaside town of Crythin Gifford, young solicitor Arthur Kidd is sent in to settle her estate. Following cryptic warnings from the locals regarding the terrifying history of the old woman’s house, he soon begins to see visions of a menacing woman in black…

First shown on TV in 1989, Kneale’s spine-chilling adaptation of Susan Hill’s classic, directed by Herbert Wise, has now been painstakingly-restored by Network’s award-winning in-house restoration team in high definition from original film elements.
