Acclaimed maverick British director Alex Cox has a new film coming out called Dead Souls, and this November he’ll be touring it across the UK at special Q&A screenings in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and London this November.
Cox – the independent filmmaker behind Repo Man, Sid and Nancy, Walker and Straight to Hell – co-wrote the “darkly comic frontier fable of American greed” with spaghetti western legend Gianni Garko.

Alex Cox in Dead Souls
Here’s the synopsis:
Cox stars as the mysterious drifter Strindler – or is it Swindler? – as he scours the West for the names of dead Mexican labourers in a loose adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s 1842 novel of the same name. Dead Souls is a meditative Western that takes place at the borderlands of the American nightmare: where fortunes rest on a dirty deal and legacies are built on blood and gold. The film also features a unique animation sequence from the renowned Tippett Studio.

From his breakout success with Repo Man to his time presenting Moviedrome on BBC, where he introduced audiences and budding filmmakers to rarely seen or forgotten classics, Alex Cox has garnered an incredible legacy within the British and worldwide film community, one that deserves celebrating.
This UK Q&A tour is a rare opportunity for fans old and new to experience Cox’s latest feature up on the big screen and to hear directly from this iconoclast of independent cinema.
Ahead of his arrival to the UK, Alex has said: “I am excited in the extreme at the thought of visiting five great independent English cinemas and showing my latest effort, Dead Souls. This should be a ton of fun. And with a bit of luck it isn’t My Last Movie!”
