The last (few minutes of The) Resort

2nd May 2021 by Sarah 2 Comments

Does the Final Girl defeat the Half-Faced Girl? Very spoilery. (My review is here.)

A holiday with no photos to bore everyone with via Instagram? That’s the real horror here.

Poor Lex, in that hospital room (for it is she who — supposedly — survives the night at the haunted resort) is told by the detective investigating her case that there are no photos from that night one her phone, despite us seeing her taking pictures as they explored the complex. It’s the first oddity that makes her wonder if everything is as it seems even now she’s supposedly safe.

By now we’ve seen Bree, Sam and Chris killed. And it was all going so well! Leaving just in time to make the 7pm boat off the island, Lex realises she’s left her backpack behind in Room 306. They go back for it and find it in a different room, next to the remains of a dead and bloodied coyote.

They consider escaping in a truck outside, which belongs to two security guards also in the complex. Chris refuses to steal it, but when Bree climbs in, the doors lock and she can’t escape. It drives itself off the balcony into the courtyard below, killing her instantly.

The three survivors head into the hotel’s service tunnels, but Sam is grabbed from behind and possessed by the Half-Faced Girl. He starts to strangle Chris, until Lex saves him by stabbing Sam in the neck. For a moment it seems as if the real Sam is back, stunned at what Lex has done to him; then the Half-Faced Girl appears behind him and uses her hands to — impressively — rip his face in half.

A still-possessed Sam comes after Chris and Lex and stamps repeatedly on Chris’s head, killing him. Lex escapes but comes face to face with Dead Bree in the corridor singing Happy Birthday, before waking up in hospital.

While the detective starts planning the search of the resort to look for her friends, she takes a photo of him, and realises there’s something odd about him. He turns around and it’s another ghost, and Lex is suddenly back in the the hotel; only this time she too has become a demonic disciple of the Half-Faced Girl.

The final shot is taken from above the resort, which is bathed in magenta smoke.
