Little Women: movie images and set pics

9th July 2019 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Emma Watson (Meg), Florence Pugh (Amy), Saoirse Ronan (Jo) and Eliza Scanlen (Beth)

UPDATE: first trailer released, watch it below

I do love a sprigged cotton dress teamed with big boots, and Little Women certainly looks to be delivering on that front – along with some of those massive satin ballgowns so wide it was a miracle any man could get within 10 feet of the wearer in order to propose marriage and a lifetime of societal inferiority.

(Completely unrelated but I once heard that burning to death was a common occurrence for crinolined ladies if their huge, high flammable dresses wafted too near the fire or the gaslight. And you thought stiletto-induced bunions were as bad as it got for women in fashion.)

I’ve always assumed Little Women to be a cross between Little House On The Prairie and Pride and Prejudice, only with more practical outfits than worn by poor Lizzy Bennet.

I’ll admit I know nothing about Louisa May Alcott’s novel, having never read the book or seen a film adaptation of it.

Timothée Chalamet and Florence Pugh

Still, I can find out on 17 January 2020 when the latest version, directed by Greta Gerwig, hits our screens. (It’s out on Christmas Day in the US.)

The movie stars Emma Watson as Meg, Saoirse Ronan as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy and Eliza Scanlen as Beth. Marmee, their mother, is played by Laura Dern with Meryl Streep as their Aunt March.

Timothée Chalamet is Theodore “Laurie” Laurence but I have even less clue what he gets up to than the girls.

Here are some images to keep you going until the end of the year:
